Google Photos is a photo storage and sharing app developed by Google. It is accessible through mobiles and web browsers. If you own a chromebook or work with the Chrome OS, you can get the Photos app for your desktop too.
One of the most appealing aspects of this app is the free 15GB of cloud storage that it provides to all the users. This allows users to store their pictures and videos without any hassle.
Google Photos is a lifesaver for those who like to capture a lot since it enables them to conveniently save and access old images and quickly revisit old moments. It also has the ability to identify individuals in photos and create individual photo albums for them (this includes people and pets).
If a user has used Google Photos for a while, the app will display a banner at the top of the screen with a collection of photos from the same date, previous year. This is such a wonderful option that helps users relive some amazing memories. But sometimes people might not want these banners to show up. To cater to their requests Google has now made it possible for its users to hide memories for specific people.
Hiding Memories for Specific People in Google Photos
There are two ways one can hide memories: using the Google Photos app and using Google Photos on the web.
Google Photos shows memories of faces that have been named or unnamed, so if a user wishes to not see a particular person’s memories then they have to search their face on from the list of faces detected and hide them.
Using Google Photos App
Step 1: Open the Google Photos app on your mobile phone.
Step 2: Click the Profile option in the top right corner.
Step 3: Click the Photo Settings option on the bottom and open the settings.
Step 4: Once you open the Settings menu, you will see the Memories tab, click and open it.
Step 5: Under the Memories tab you can see the Hide people and pets option.
Here you can see all the faces detected in your photos and videos, from there you can unhide and hide faces by clicking on them.
Using Google Photos on Desktop
Step 1: Open Google Photos on your web browser.
Step 2: Now log in to your Google Photos account.
Once logged in, you can start following the second step from the previous procedure as the layout for the app and web page are the same.
Other Ways to Hide Faces in Google Photos
In Google Photos, if you hide a saved (named or unnamed) face the memories of that particular person are automatically hidden. Here is how you hide them,
On Google Photos App
Step 1: Open the Google Photos App
Step 2: On the bottom of the screen there is an explore button, click that.
Step 3: Once you click that on top of the screen there appears a People and pets tab. On the right end of the tab there is a view all option, click that.
Step 4: After you click that button, there appears a list of faces saved, both named and unnamed.
Step 5: Now from the list of faces, long press the face you wish to hide.
Step 6: On top of the screen in the right-side corner, there appears a Hide option. Click that and now your preferred face is hidden finally.
On Google Photos Web Browser
For hiding a photo using a web browser the procedure is slightly different as the layout is different.
Step 1: Open Google Photos on your web browser (desktop or mobile).
Step 2: All your recent photos will appear on the screen now. On the left corner of the screen there is an explore option, click that.
Step 3: A lot of tables like People and pets, and Things and Places will appear. On the right side of the People and pets tab there will be a View more option, click that.
Step 4: Now all faces that have been detected will appear on-screen.
Step 5: On the top right, there is an eye-shaped symbol with the Show & hide faces option, click that.
Step 6: Again, all the saved faces will appear on screen (both named and unnamed). Now click the faces you wish to hide, and an eye symbol appears on top of it.
This way you can hide and unhide as many people’s faces as you want.
To know whether these alternate hiding techniques hide your memories or not, you can check the memories option and find all the faces you’ve previously hid displayed there. The hiding procedure is the same if a user wants to hide memories for their pets.
