Birthdays are really special for everyone, regardless of age. The best part about birthdays when we were kids was all the cake, presents, balloons, and decorations. However, for various reasons, some people lose interest in lavish birthday celebrations as they age. Instead, they might want to spend a nice quiet evening with their families or close friends.
Since the pandemic had us cooped up for more than 2 years, most of us spent our birthdays at home with our families. Some of you may wish to continue doing so even now after the pandemic has ended.
For people who still choose to spend their birthday with their family, here are some simple ideas to lighten up your day. After all, who doesn’t like enjoying precious moments with their families, particularly on their special day?
1.Try Baking Your Own Cake
What is a birthday without a cake? Try baking a cake with your family. Cooking together as a family deepens your bond with them. It might be a great opportunity to get to know more about your family members and become closer. You might not have known your grandma’s favorite cake flavor till now, or you might not have been aware of your dad’s intense fondness for chocolate.
You need not go for a themed or iced cake; it could be a simple cooker cake without any icing on top, but it would surely be the best you’ve ever tasted.
2.Go for a Long Drive
Enjoying time with your family away from your busy schedule can be extremely relaxing.
While planning for long drives with your family, it is best to go after sunset as the weather will likely be pleasant by then.
You can even plan a family dinner at a nice hotel or go for a bonfire in the evening. There are lots of resorts and hotels that offer roof-top dinners and camping facilities for families. Make sure to pre-plan your trip and book the hotel before you arrive.
As children, most people would have watched their first and some of the best movies in their life with their families. You can try to recreate those memories by tuning in on them. Even if you haven’t enjoyed these things as a child, go for it now. A movie date with your family on your birthday can be a great experience.
Though many people prefer going out for a movie with their family, you can also stock up on all your favorite snacks and watch movies at home with your family, and have fun conversations throughout.
4.Hold a Themed Dress-up Event
No, it’s not Halloween, it’s your birthday, but you can still dress up as you wish.
Making your parents dress up as their favorite Bollywood characters or Disney character dress-ups for your children can make for extremely fun memories.
First, choose a theme for your birthday that is easy and simple, and ask your family members to dress up accordingly for your birthday. Then ask everyone to reveal their character on your birthday and share why they dressed up as that character.
This fun activity can be a change from the routine birthdays!
5.Treat Your Family to Their Favorite Dishes
If you are good at cooking, you can cook your family breakfast. Your family will probably surprise you with a party or cake because it is your birthday. Being gracious enough to treat them back with their favorite dishes hand-cooked with lots of love is something they won’t be expecting but will surely love!
6.Ask Elders About Their Birthday Stories
Get a couple of blankets and sit with your parents/grandparents in the living room. Talking about their birthday stories might be an excellent way for you and them to connect with the past.
It might be a silly story from their childhood birthday or your birthday party years ago; whatever it is, it’s bound to be great fun. Having a good chat with elders at your home is an underrated gem.
If you live far away from them, hop on Zoom or Skype or a WhatsApp call and have a heartfelt conversation with them; that will surely make your day and their day very special.
7.End Your Birthday with a Dessert
Don’t desserts light up everyone’s faces? Ending your birthday with a sweet treat is great to bring the amazing day to an end. It can be the perfect cherry on top of a perfect day.
